Girl Scout Heritage Visit
The Girl Scout Heritage Visit is offered by reservation for Girl Scout troops/groups age levels Girl Scout Junior through Girl Scout Ambassador. Troops explore their Girl Scout traditions and the legacy of Juliette Gordon Low during a full-day, two-part visit. Included are a special-interest session, a PowerPoint orientation, and a guided tour of the Birthplace. The visit also allows time for shopping in the museum store and conducting a troop-planned Girl Scouts' Own and Pinning Ceremony in the garden. Girl Scout Heritage Visits are scheduled daily. The Birthplace is closed Wednesdays from November - February and some holidays.
The Birthplace assigns a schedule to each Girl Scout troop when it makes a reservation. Girl Scout Seniors and Girl Scout Ambassadors can extend their Girl Scout Heritage Visit into the evening with a Victorian supper.
During this part of the Heritage Visit, troop participants explore the life and times of Juliette Gordon Low, her family and early Girl Scouts. Historic photographs of Daisy and her family from the Birthplace archives are a highlight of the PowerPoint presentation. The special Girl Scout tour of her childhood home is an inspirational trip into the past. The traditional Girl Scouts' Own and Pinning Ceremony in the historic garden creates a memory for a lifetime. And, of course, all our heritage visitors enjoy their time shopping in the museum store.
Explore a Victorian girl's life through popular games, songs, and amusements. Re-enact skits Daisy Gordon and her friends wrote and produced. Experience the entertainments of a by-gone era. 
Discover fashion history and 19th-century clothing. Corsets, bustles, and hoop skirts were the keys to style and appearance. Lace up in a corset and investigate how clothing "made the woman" during Daisy's time. 
Experience the early days of Girl Scouting! Try "setting up exercises" (calisthenics), marching, and Semaphore and Morse code signaling, and see the 1918 Girl Scout promotional film The Golden Eaglet. Create and present costumed skits just like the first Girl Scouts. 
Explore the intricate world of textiles. Like Juliette Gordon Low's first Girl Guides in Scotland, learn about fibers, and try your hand at spinning and weaving. Begin a weaving take-home project on a card loom. 
Dress up in reproduction costumes and try out activities from Daisy's childhood, like embroidering a bookmark, making paper dolls, creating a tinsel picture and other crafts. Learn what 10-year-old Daisy Gordon did on a rainy day. 
Daisy Gordon was an accomplished artist. Learn about Daisy and other women artists of her time. Become a “Sister of the Palette” and try your hand at her favorite art forms, including sculpting. 
In Daisy Gordon's time, many young girls went to finishing school to become accomplished ladies. Dress in costume and experience some of their lessons, such as penmanship, ladies handcrafts, and deportment. End the session with a Victorian tea party.
