Upcoming Opportunities For Brownies At The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace
Brownie Days
The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace is registering Brownie Troops for the 2009-2010 "Brownie Days at the Birthplace." "Brownie Day" is a Birthplace visit designed especially for Brownie Girl Scouts. The events each include different songs, games, crafts and a special Brownie house activity related to the theme of the event in Daisy's own home (instead of a formal house tour).
Girl Scout Brownies will earn a Brownie Day Patch and rockers that circle the patch. Fourth time visitors earn the official Birthplace Pin. Brownies also work on a Try-It, a Leadership Journey "key" and learn about a different part of Daisy Low's life during each session.
Girl Scout Brownies are encouraged to come in official Girl Scout uniform to represent the Girl Scout movement. The sessions compliment each other and give Brownie Troops several visits to the Birthplace. The program lasts about one hour, but with check-in and shopping, plan to be at the Birthplace for 1½ - 2 hours.
The September Brownie Day is Old Fashion School Days. This event focuses on Juliette Gordon Low's experiences in school. Girl Scout Brownies will pretend they are students from the past. Explore Daisy's letters home from school and learn to write with an old-fashioned ink pen. Discover what Juliette Low thought about school as a child. This event features stories, games, and the completion of a craft. Girls work on the "Her Story" Try-It and several journey"keys". Old Fashion School Days: September 26 & 27, 2009.
In December, the Birthplace will host the popular Christmas 1886 with the Gordons. This event includes festive family holiday fun. Participants will meet costumed characters from Daisy's life, who help them celebrate the holidays in her house with traditional songs and stories. After playing the part of the Gordon children in the beautifully decorated family home, Girl Scout Brownies make a special Victorian craft to share with their families when they return home. Start the holiday season off with a visit to the past! Girls work on the "Listening to the Past" Try-It and several journey "keys". Christmas with the Gordons: December 5, 6 & 12, 2009.
Brownies the World O'er includes an orientation to visiting the Juliette Low Birthplace; an activity in the Historic House specially tailored to the interests of Girl Scout Brownies ; games which Juliette Low and the early Girls Scouts played as well as games from around the world; and a craft activity which is perfect to reinforce the symbols and traditions of Girl Scouting. Girls learn about the wonderful history and world of Girl Scouting by doing what they did in the past. Following the activities, each troop will have a chance to shop in the Museum Store. Brownies the World O'er: February 6 & 7, 2010.
Daisy's Days, Victorian Childhood will include an orientation to visiting the Juliette Low Birthplace, an activity in the Historic House designed for interests of Girl Scout Brownies; games that Daisy Gordon, her sisters and cousins played here when she was their age; and a craft activity which is perfect as a May gift or Mother's Day present. Each troop will have a chance to shop in the Museum Store. Girls work on the "Daisy's Neighborhood," Savannah Council's Own Try-It and a journey "key". Daisy Days will be held on May 1 & 2, 2010.
