Girl Scout Troop Experience

At the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, we invite Girl Scouts to discover the unconventional life of Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, the daughter, debutante, wife, adventurer, and artist who became the first Girl Scout. Together, your troop will explore Juliette Gordon Low’s girlhood home, play one of her favorite parlor games, and look closely at how she challenged expectations for women in her day to become a confident leader.

As part of your three-hour troop visit you will

  • Experience Juliette Gordon Low’s home on a fascinating tour filled with sights, stories, and activities.
  • Connect the past to the present with a fun, hands-on activity session.
  • Explore the museum store, where you’ll find the perfect souvenir of your visit.
  • Enjoy our garden, where you can gather for the perfect Girl Scout photo op.
  • End with a troop-led Girl Scouts’ Own and pinning ceremony to celebrate your time at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace.

Activity Sessions

House For All

The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace opened its doors to visitors in 1956, with the goal to be a “house for all girls”.

What does it mean to make a place where everyone feels welcome and included? How would you design a building to be fun and easy for anyone to use? What resources do you need to break through barriers to accessibility?

In this strategy game, you’ll trade cards and collaborate with your teammates to design a welcoming, accessible place for your imaginary clients to live, work, and play. You’ll find out about inclusive design and how designing for accessibility first can make the world a better place for everyone.

She’s Got Game

Are you afraid of making mistakes? Saying the wrong thing? Starting something new? What holds you back from taking action in life? Playing games can help you with that!

Juliette Gordon Low might have realized that the time she spent as a girl playing and making up games with family and friends helped give her the courage, confidence, and character she needed to start Girl Scouts. She made sure that “real FUN” was an important part of early Girl Scouting from the beginning.

Carry on this Girl Scout tradition. Have fun and hack your fears while playing games with other Girl Scouts!

Picture This!

From a young age Juliette Low discovered she had a passion for art and narrative; a passion she shared with the earliest Girl Scout troops. This program combines art and storytelling in the form of mixed media collages that use images from our Girl Scout past, recycled materials, found objects, and more!

Over Teacups for Seniors and Ambassadors

What do you imagine when you think of “afternoon tea”? White gloves, formal chitchat, and dainty tea cakes?  What about votes for women, civil rights, and social justice?

For generations, women have gathered at teatime to talk about real challenges and worked for change.  They opened tea rooms to fund their causes and sold cakes and cookies to fight for justice.

Juliette Low enjoyed the ritual of afternoon tea. It was “over teacups” in our parlor with her cousin Nina Pape that she hatched her plan to introduce the Girl Scouts Movement to the United States.

Now we invite Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts to join us for a tasting tour and tea in Juliette’s family home. We’ll taste our way through stories from Juliette Low’s life and hear how other trailblazing women have used food to make the world a better place.

Then we’ll sit down together for tea with light refreshments in the parlor of her family home, where Juliette Low hosted tea parties for the first Girl Scouts. And maybe--as it did for Juliette Low and other daring women before and since--your tea talk will inspire a recipe for a better future!
